This time, everything Team USA wears in the opening parade will have been designed, sourced and manufactured in the United States. The collection includes red, white and blue shirts, pants, jackets, hats and a gaudy cardigan that retails for $595. The entire purchase price of the latter will be donated to the U.S. Olympic Committee, according to the Los Angeles Times. The sweater, which is the centerpiece of the collection, was designed in New York City and made in Los Angeles. The wool, which comes from an Oregon ranch, was spun in Pennsylvania and dyed in North Carolina. David Lauren, an executive vice president at Ralph Lauren, called the job a “privilege.” “It’s a proud moment to watch these premier athletes as they walk out representing our nation on a global stage in front of billions of people worldwide,” he said. In 2012, Judy Woodruff discussed the backlash over the Summer Olympic uniforms with Mark Shields and Michael Gerson on the PBS NewsHour.
