Hunter Biden was indicted on three federal firearms counts, a court document filed Thursday shows.

President Joe Biden’s son is accused of lying about his drug use when he purchased a gun, according to the indictment filed in Delaware.

Prosecutors allege that Hunter checked a box on a federal form, asserting that he did not use or was not addicted to drugs when he purchased a Colt Cobra Special at a Delaware gun shop in 2018. The indictment suggests that Hunter was using drugs during the general time he made the purchase, and that he deceived the company selling him the gun by making false statements.

The indictment is the latest development in an ongoing investigation, led by special counsel David Weiss, a Trump appointee, after a plea deal on tax and gun charges between Hunter and federal prosecutors fell apart in July.

The charges are unrelated to a Justice Department probe into Hunter’s overseas business dealings.

Since the GOP took control of the House at the start of the year, Republicans have tried to directly connect the president — so far without evidence — to a “culture of corruption,” often invoking his son’s ongoing legal troubles.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced Tuesday the launch of an impeachment inquiry into President Biden that seeks to expand the investigation into Hunter’s handling of taxes and foreign business dealings.
