Leahy says the committee has lost its independence and become, in his words, “an arm, and a very weak arm, of the Trump White House.” The committee has set a vote for later Friday on whether to recommend the nomination to the full Senate. Leahy says Kavanaugh has been “credibly accused of sexual assault” and the committee has failed to conduct a meaningful investigation. Christine Blasey Ford testified Thursday that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when they were teens. Kavanaugh says the accusation is “categorically” false.
