WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has emerged from a meeting with his national security team without a “final decision” on how to respond to a suspected chemical weapons attack in Syria.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is scheduled to hold a briefing at 2:30 p.m. ET today. Watch her remarks in the player above.
White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders says Trump held a meeting Thursday afternoon with his team to discuss the situation.
But she says, “No final decision has been made.”
Sanders adds that U.S. officials are “continuing to assess intelligence” and are “engaged in conversations with our partners and allies.” Trump is slated to speak with French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Theresa May Thursday evening.
Earlier today, Trump and his aides also pushed back against former FBI Director James Comey and his new book, which depicts the president as unethical and “untethered to the truth.”
Trump, in response, called Comey an “untruthful slime ball” who should be prosecuted for leaking classified information. “It was my great honor to fire him,” Trump tweeted.
