    ("TAPS" PLAYS)

  • Judy Woodruff:

Each year at the end of may, we endeavor to take a pause from our busy lives to reverently mark one of our meaningful holidays as Americans.

    ("TAPS" PLAYS)

  • Judy Woodruff:

Memorial Day was once known as Decoration Day, when, following the Civil War, citizens would travel to the cemeteries in their communities to respectfully decorate the graves for those who had given the last full dedication in their service to others.

    ("TAPS" PLAYS)

  • Judy Woodruff:

Although much has changed in our nation over the years, the sacred spirit of this special day has not. Today, and every day, we gratefully remember and honor these service members of uncommon courage, selflessness, and sacrifice.

    ("TAPS" PLAYS)

  • Judy Woodruff:

Today, we think about those that they have left behind. As we spend time with our own loved ones, we reflect on the beautiful gift of life, and the opportunity to be here in this great nation with each other and for each other.

  • Amna Nawaz:

Beautiful tribute. They are gone, but not forgotten.
