Other News: Iowa Court Legalizes Same-Sex Marriages

Iowa's Supreme Court ruled that the state's ban on gay marriage is unconstitutional, and mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will pay more than $210 million in bonuses through next year as an incentive to get more than 7,600 employees to stay.

    In other news today, the Supreme Court of Iowa legalized same-sex marriages. It found the state's ban on gay marriage violated the state constitution. The decision makes Iowa the third state to legalize the practice. Legislative leaders said it is unlikely that they will bring up bills to add a gay marriage ban to the state constitution.

    Mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will pay more than $210 million in bonuses through next year. It's in the form of retention payments, as an incentive to get more than 7,600 employees to stay. The companies' federal regulator defended the payments. He said many of the workers lost all their savings last year when Fannie's and Freddie's stock prices collapsed.
