Making costume pieces is a great way to encourage imaginative play! When kids make costumes from another era, they are transported to that place in time through their imaginations. This headband is a fantastic example of this: the 1920s was a decade of changing fashion styles, popular dances, and music trends. Feather headbands were popular accessories during this time.

Materials

Directions

1

Paint the thin cardboard white. Allow it to dry.

2

Once your paint dries, cut a strip of cardboard about 12'' long and 3'' wide.

3

Cut shapes out of the colored card stock.

4

Choose a few feathers or a shape. Glue directly onto the cardboard band.

5

Continue layering until you've created your design. There are no rules!

6

Once you've created your design, punch 2 holes in each end of the cardboard strip.

7

String yarn through the holes. Tie it so that you have 2 long pieces of yarn on each end.

8

Tie the yarn ends together around your head. You are now ready to play!
