Brew Flower Potions

Turn a fun nature walk into a wonderful afternoon of colorful nature play and spark your child's creativity and imagination.
Materials
Directions
Go on a nature walk and gather wild flowers or flower petals. Petals that have fallen from flowering trees can also be gathered. Use a flower identification book to find out what type of flower it is and if it is safe to touch.
Once you are back home, fill the cups with water and add food coloring to each one.
Add the flowers to your cups of colored water. Help your child get creative by pulling the petals from the flowers or sticking the stems in the water. Use the sticks and spoons as stirring devices.
What does your child observe? How has the food coloring changed the flowers, stems, or petals?

Let the colorful petals dry and then use them to create mosaics or other art projects.
