How to Make DIY Snowflakes With Cotton Swabs

Decorate your house for the holidays with these beautiful and easy cotton swab snowflakes! Use this craft to discuss vocabulary words such as radial or talk about repeating patterns.

It's snowing in "Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood!" Everyone is excited and full of winter cheer as they celebrate Snowflake Day with decorations, songs, and a special Snowflake Day show. You and your child can sing along with Daniel Tiger and his family and then make snowflakes to decorate for your own Snowflake Day or other winter holiday celebration.

♪ All the lights are twinkling, the snow is falling down. The Neighborhood is covered, the snow is all around. All the falling snowflakes sparkle and sway. It's time to get together for Snowflake Day. ♪

Trace a medium-sized bowl (or something circular) onto dark colored card stock with a pencil.

Cut out the circle.

Cut the cotton tips off of seven cotton swabs on one side, making sure to leave the other tip.

Cut four cotton swabs in half.

Glue the seven longer cotton swabs in a radial pattern around the circle, make sure the cotton swab end faces outwards.

Glue seven of the cotton swabs you cut in half in between each of the longer cotton swabs in the same radial pattern.

Punch two holes in the top of the circle.

Thread year through the holes and tie in a knot to hang. Happy decorating!

Hang the snowflake in your home and celebrate winter!
