Going on a nature walk is a great way to learn about the world. In this activity, you and your child will create beautiful dragonflies using a mix of objects you find on your nature walk.

Materials

Directions

1

To gather the supplies you need, take a nature walk with your child. While you look for a twig, two small stones, and “wings,” keep your eyes peeled for other interesting plants and critters.

2

Pour a small amount of paint onto a paper plate.

3

Paint the small twig. This will be the dragonfly’s body. Set it aside to dry completely.

4

Paint the maple seeds with glitter glue. These will be the dragonfly’s wings! Let them dry.

5

Once the paint on your twig is dry, use tacky glue (or a hot glue gun) to glue small black beads or stones onto the end of the twig. These represent the dragonfly’s eyes.

6

Once your glitter glue is dry, glue the maple seed wings onto your dragonfly. Try making more in different colors and hanging them around the house!
