Create a Melted Bead Bowl

Apr 12, 2019

Give loose beads a brand new life with this simple science and art project.

Materials

Directions

1

Grease the oven-proof bowl and preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

2

Have your child empty the beads into the bowl. Help your child push them down to the bottom, spreading them out until there is a single layer reaching up the sides.

3

Place the bowl in the oven for about 15 minutes. Ask your child, “What do you think will happen to the beads after “baking” them?

4

After removing the bowl from the oven, let it cool completely before touching it directly with your hands. Talk to your child about whether the beads changed as predicted. Ask your child to describe the beads now. Do they have a different texture? Are they shaped the same way?

5

Once it's cool enough to touch, carefully peel the bead bowl off of the oven-proof bowl. Ask your child to think of items to keep in this new bowl. If your child wants to keep the bowl empty, that’s fine, too!
