Not all spiders are the same! For example, the Goliath tarantula has eight eyes and does not spin a web. Learn more about this unique spider and then make your own creepy cool spider to use in your Halloween decorations.

The Wild Kratts team is getting ready for Halloween, and Martin and Chris have decided to dress up as a Goliath tarantula and a vampire bat. The brothers go exploring to learn more about these creepy and cool creatures so that Aviva can assemble the perfect creature power suits.

Learn more about the Goliath tarantula or another spider and then customize this handprint spider craft to add to your Halloween decorations.

Directions

Did you know that spiders can have anywhere from zero to eight eyes (in even counts). The Goliath tarantula has eight eyes, although it can’t see very well. It often lives in burrows, fallen logs, or under leaf litter and lines its home with silk. The Goliath tarantula does not make webs like some other spiders, but it does have a special ability to use its hair to irritate the skin of a predator.

1

Get the facts! Talk with your child to decide what kind of spider you want to add to your Halloween decorations. Will it be the Goliath tarantula or another spider? How many eyes will you need to add to the spider? Does the spider have any special markings?

2

Fold the construction paper in half and trace your child’s hand so that the palm is on the paper crease with 4 fingers on the paper.

3

Cut through both sheets of paper to cut out the fingers of the handprint, but do not cut along the crease. Unfold your paper.

4

Glue googly eyes onto the spider.

5

Cut two small holes on the spider's back. Thread the yarn through and knot both ends.

6

Include your cool and creepy spider as part of your Halloween decorations.
