Make a Letter X Book!

Create your very own letter X book!
Materials
Directions
Draw the letter x and talk to your child about the sound that x makes when it is at the end of a word.
Together, make a list of short words that end in x such as box, fox, and six.
Decorate Popsicle sticks, two Popsicle sticks for each x word that you wrote down, plus two more for the book cover.
Help your child write one of the words on a piece of construction paper, but don’t write the x at the end.
Encourage your child to draw a picture that goes with the word.
Make a page for each word on your list.
Use the last two Popsicle sticks to create a cover page with the letter x and help your child write his name.
Stack the pages and punch two or three holes down the left side.
String a piece of yard through each hole and tie a knot. You now have an eXceptional letter x book!
The letter x makes the /ks/ sound when it comes at the end of a word, but when it comes at the beginning of a word it can either say its name as in x-ray, or make the /z/ sound as in xylophone. Create another list of words that begin with the letter x and talk about what sound the letter makes in each word.
Other letters can have more than one sound too. Create list of words that begin with the letter c. Say each one out loud slowly to see whether it begins with a hard c as in cat, or a soft c as in ceiling.
