You can learn a lot just by looking at a dinosaur’s fossilized footprint! Scientists have a special name for a group of animal footprints: a trackway. Transform your child’s human footsteps into Tyrannosaurus rex trackways by painting and imprinting cardboard dinosaur feet.

Materials

Directions

1

Before you begin the activity, look at a picture of a Tyrannosaurus rex. What do their feet look like? Did they walk on two legs or four legs?

2

Print out two copies of the Make a T. Rex Trackway printable. Glue each one to a piece of cardboard, then cut them out.

3

Attach a horizontal strap of cardboard across each footprint so your child can slip the cardboard footprints over their feet and “wear” them.

4

Using a paint roller or sponge, apply paint to the bottom of each “footprint.”

5

Lay a long piece of butcher paper down on the floor and have your child stomp across it, leaving a T. Rex trackway in their path!
