Child dressed as Elinor

Many children enjoy dressing up for Halloween, but half the fun is coming up with the costume. Your child can dress just like Elinor by wearing clothes similar to her recognizable outfit in red and purple. The magic of this costume is really in the accessories that your child can help you make.

Grab some red and purple clothes from their closet and get ready to fasten some DIY bunny ears to a headband. If you want to take things a step further, you can even add a cute bunny nose and whiskers with some face paint! We used adhesive-backed felt for the majority of this project. If you only have regular felt laying around, use double-sided tape (or a glue stick for a more permanent costume) to secure it in place as you follow the instructions.

Materials

Directions

1

Using a pencil, draw two simple bunny ears on the white felt. Draw a small 1/2” tab to the bottom of each ear for attaching to the headband.

2

Cut out the ears and then lay them onto the pink adhesive felt and trace around them. When cutting out the pink ears, cut about ¼” on the inside of the ears so they are slightly smaller than the white ones.

3

Remove the adhesive backing from the pink ears and attach them to the white ears.

4

Attach the ears to the headband by wrapping the bottom tab around the headband and securing in place with hot glue or a glue stick.

5

To create Elinor’s outfit, have your child put on the red skirt or shorts and a purple t-shirt. Create the jumper by adding adhesive-backed red felt! Cut two 2” wide strips the length of the red 8.5x11” sheet and place them over your child’s shoulders to mimic the straps on Elinor’s jumper.

6

With your child already wearing the purple shirt, wrap the remaining two sheets of red adhesive felt around the front and back being sure to slightly overlap the bottoms of the shoulder straps.

7

Optional: Use the face-painting crayon or eye liner pencil to draw a little nose and whiskers on your child’s face.
