Peg Yarn Hats

Jun 12, 2019

Get crafty at your Peg + Cat birthday party with these cute and easy to make yarn hats.

Materials

Directions

1

Gather your supplies.

2

Apply a thin line of glue along the bottom lip of the bowl. Stick the end of the beige yarn to the strip of glue and hold it in place as you wrap the yarn around the bowl three or four times. Cut the yarn and glue the end to the bowl.

3

Glue the end of the brown yarn to the bowl at the same spot where your beige yarn stopped. Wind the brown yarn around the bowl three to four times, then clip and glue the end. Repeat with alternating colors until you reach the top of the bowl "hat."

4

Cover the top of the bowl/hat with a thin layer of glue. Press one end of the next color yarn in your alternating pattern to the center of the top. Spiral the yarn out from the center to the edge, covering the top of the hat. Cut the yarn and affix the end of the spiral to the edge.

5

Cut a long piece of one color of the yarn and wrap it several times around four of your fingers. Gently slide the wrapped yarn off of your hand and set it on a table.

6

With a smaller piece of yarn, tie a knot in the middle of the wrapped yarn to create a pom-pom.

7

Cut through the loops in the yarn, then trim around the entire yarn ball until the pom-pom is full and fluffy. Glue the pom-pom to the top of the bowl/hat.

8

With the sharp point of the scissors, poke a small hole in the bottom side of the bowl. (Adults should help young children with the step.)

9

Wrap the tip of a length of yarn with a small piece of tape and thread the tip through the hole from the inside of the hat, tying a knot on the outside to secure it in place. Trim off the tape. Repeat on the other side of the hat.

10

Tie the strings together to secure the hat to wear.
