Red and Yellow Make Orange: Pumpkin Craft for Toddlers

Using tissue paper, this fun pumpkin craft helps introduce your toddler to the idea of mixing colors to make new colors.
Materials
Directions
Tape a large piece of contact paper (about the size of a place mat) to a table, sticky side up.
Have your toddler tear up pieces of red and yellow tissue paper, then stick the pieces to the contact paper until it’s full.
Flatten out the tissue paper pieces by asking your child to smash them with their hands. Then, cover the tissue paper with another piece of clear contact paper, sticky side down.
To make pumpkins, cut the contact paper into circles and put a stem at the top using the green paper. If your toddler doesn’t cover the entire piece of contact paper, simply cut smaller pumpkins out of the covered areas.
Hold the pumpkins up to a window to see what happens when the red and yellow tissue paper pieces overlap. (“Look! What happens when the yellow paper and red paper mix? They make orange — just like a pumpkin!”)
