Arthur

Supermarket Scavenger Hunt

Jul 23, 2018

Young children love to help with grown-up tasks, like going to the grocery store. Take advantage of that enthusiasm by playing a fun alphabet game that encourages early literacy skills.

Materials

Directions

1

Create a deck of alphabet cards by writing letters on index cards. Tip: You may want to skip rare letters like Q, X, and Z.

2

Show your child the alphabet card deck, and have him pick a card.

3

Invite him to play a letter scavenger hunt. Ask him to scan the supermarket flyers for words that begin with the letter he selected (like A for Apple, G for Grapes, T for Tomato)

4

Help your child to cut out the words and pictures he finds, then glue them to the index card. Note: If your child can't find corresponding words, he can move on to the next card in the deck.

5

Continue playing until the deck is gone!
