Tackle Fears Through Art

Jul 23, 2018

It’s natural to feel fear, but sometimes fear can get in the way of enjoying new experiences or meeting new people. Show your child that one way to feel less afraid of something is to learn more about it.

Materials

Directions

1

Research: Help your child do research to learn more about something they fear. For example, in the Arthur episode “D.W. All Wet,” D.W. is scared of octopuses. D.W. might investigate what octopuses eat, where they live and what they do when they’re afraid.

2

Illustrate: Ask your child to draw pictures of the fears they researched. Help them incorporate one or two facts they learned about the subject. Help young children write informational captions for their pictures.
