Two children enjoy winter wonderland cookies.

Alma is excited to celebrate Nochebuena, also known as "Good Night," on Christmas Eve, along her family’s traditions, but nothing seems to go right. When Papi needs an extension cord to turn on the animal lights, Alma suggests going door-to-door on a parranda to see if anyone could lend them an extension cord. Their first stop is Frankie, and while they didn’t find an extension cord, he did share some delicious and festive winter cookies!

The people in our community are special because they can help provide support for families and organizations in many ways. Supplies and Ingredients

Directions

1

Let your child help you measure out all the ingredients. You can share with them the importance of following directions.

2

In a bowl, add the softened butter and sugar. Mix them together until it’s creamy and smooth.

3

Separate the egg yolk from the egg white. Then add the egg yolk and vanilla to the butter and sugar mixture.

4

In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder and salt until combined.

5

Now it’s time to combine everything! Mix it all together until it becomes a soft dough. Your child may need some help as this part will require a bit of arm power!

6

Squish the dough into a large ball, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 10 minutes.

7

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly dust your counter and roll out the dough to a half an inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to make fun holiday cookie shapes like stars. Bake for 12-15 minutes until they turn golden brown.

8

After your cookies have cooled, it’s time to decorate! Let your child’s creativity flow as they add sprinkles and icing to make delicious festive cookies! Talk about how your family can share these cookies with the community.
