Surprise Your Preschooler With These Egg-cellent Activities All Year Round

Your child’s body benefits from exercise every day, and so does their mind! You can help them exercise their brains by guiding them through fun activities that challenge different functions of their brain. Try a tough egg hunt just like Brain did with his friends on “Arthur” to flex your kid’s memory and perseverance skills. Then, turn to one of the activities below to help build your child’s literacy and math skills — or learn about something new like “The Greatest Men and Women of Science” — one plastic egg at a time.
If your child has trouble with an activity, encourage them to find some peace and quiet to calm themselves and try again, just like Brain did when he couldn't find the Pierre Paul Broca egg!
- Bedtime Story Surprise: Write the names of spring picture books or favorite books on paper slips and put them in the eggs. Let your child pick an egg each night to choose her bedtime story.
- Choose a Chore: Fill each egg with the name of a job or a chore. Your child can choose an egg each day to learn how she can help around the house.
- Coin Collecting: Fill each egg with a coin and have your child choose one egg color. Pull out all the eggs of that color, empty them and add up the coins. Then move on to another color. This helps your child with coin recognition and money counting skills.
- Estimate Eggs: Put the eggs in a large bin to help your child practice her estimation skills. Ask her how many eggs she thinks are in the bin, and then take them out and count them. This is also a fun game if you're hosting an Easter brunch! Have each guest guess how many eggs are in the container and give a small prize to the winner.
- Put a Spin on Flashcards: Write your child's spelling words on slips of paper and put each one in an egg. Let your child pick an egg and you can read her the word. This also works great for math facts. Doing homework has never been this fun!
- Snack Time: Fill the eggs with small snacks, such as raisins, nuts, chocolate chips and dried fruit. Let your child randomly choose what will be in her snack mix each day for a fun after-school treat!
We hope you had fun together! Snap a photo of you and your child doing the activity and share it with us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. We’d love to see how it turned out!
For more fun with Easter eggs, try making a wreath or music maker!
