Talk About It: Life Changes After a Divorce

Change can be hard — but talking with your child can help them better understand and manage life changes. In this video, a mom and daughter talk about how they felt when they had to move because of divorce. Watch the video with your child and then ask them the questions below - or make up a few of your own!

In this video from “PBS KIDS Talk About,” Zoe remembers the changes they had to go through and her initial feelings after her mom and dad got divorced. Her mom, Persha, reminds her that her family and loved ones are there to support her. Persha also praises her daughter for supporting a friend who is going through a similar situation.

One mother, Monica, shares, “There’s a lot that changes all the time. We’re going to get new family members, we’re going to lose family members. We’re going to have changes with school. Those things are always happening. But we always have each other and loved ones to support us.” Talk about ways that you will support your child as they experience change — and talk about what doesn’t change — like your love and support for them.
