FRONTLINE has learned that following the broadcast of "Bad Voodoo's War," the U.S. Army launched an investigation of Sfc. Toby Nunn and Spc. Jason Shaw. According to the Army, the investigation centered on the question of whether the men received permission from their chain of command to participate in the making of the film.
Sfc. Nunn reports to FRONTLINE that the Army punished him for his participation in the film "with a letter of reprimand in my permanent record so that I cannot be promoted or reenlist." He says that "nothing illegal happened and proper protocol was followed" and that he is appealing the Army's decision to ensure that "I leave with an honorable discharge instead of a general discharge and I am trying to clear my name and record as well."
Sfc. Nunn's full statement to FRONTLINE is below. He is also writing about the investigation on his blog.
FRONTLINE will continue to follow this story and report on it further as developments warrant.
--------------------
Dear Deb and Frontline
Bad Voodoo has returned to the states and have started the demobilization process and are getting back together with their families. Several of us leaders have to stay on for a few more weeks and complete some education requirements and I am trying to get my reputation reintact. I was punished for my participation in the Frontline documentary by getting a letter of reprimand in my permanent record so that I cannot be promoted or reenlist. This is a painful and hurtful piece of paper that has painted me out to be like the enemies I dedicated my life to fighting. There was an investigation into the documentary but it did not involve anyone that participated in the film. Due process was ignored and the findings of the investigation clearly do not support the punishment I have received. By all counts my career is finished and I will complete my contractual time then get out. I am ensuring that I leave with an honorable discharge instead of a general discharge and I am trying to clear my name and record as well.
I apologize if I have remained distant throughout this process but I did not want the men to suffer or be distracted from their accomplishments. I have a great respect for the all of you and wish that I can work with you in the future. I might need to get into journalism now if this career is over right. Well, thank you for the opportunity to tell our story.
V/R
Toby Nunn

This is outrageous, Toby, and I'm really sorry to hear it. You and your men told heroic stories of your time in Iraq, and for the military authorities to act in such a rash and poorly considered way, wrecking the career of one of their heroes, is cowardly and dishonorable.
I wish you all the best with the appeal; we can only hope that through reasoned argument and collective reconsideration, their decision will be revoked.
yours,
Joe Braidwood
SFC Nunn,
I heard about this yesterday. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you.
CPT Chen
i got fired from a corporate gig for blogging, so this doesn't really shock me. did you receive explicit permission prior to shooting or were you hoping that the brass would be cool with it?
What a crock of crap!
The "Army" is looking for scapegoats because it has egg on its face. One tells the truth and shows Iraq for what it is and has been (especially after the former Secretary of Defense put us there in the first place). Totally disgusting and we the people should be up in arms about the way these guys are being treated.
Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black. How disingenuous...
The BEST. The best documentary of any I have seen on the war.
Your personal gift to us of your thoughts is one you probably gave simply and freely and did not know the impact we back in the states would take from them. It is indeed brave to share your thoughts; more so than the mechanical actions you take as you go through your day. How you think and inspire makes the life of those around you so much more secure and purposeful.
I will follow this story to it's conclusion; which in my estimation is the end to our involvement in the Iraq policing action and when you return to share in the great freedoms you have guaranteed for yourself and all of the rest of us.
I thank you, Toby.
I wish I could have been so brave during my own Viet Nam times as you are. Now I can only support you in doing what I wish I had done more of. We will work to bring all of you home.

What can we do to get Sfc. Nunn's name cleared, and help him get the dignity he deserves? Is there someone or an agency people can contact to show support?
not a surprise that "America the free" government doesnt want us to hear about the "real war in IRAQ" and what an easy way for them to NOT take care of returning soldiers again.
I am truly sorry to here that SFC. Nunn is being railroaded in this way.
With a production like this, there is no way that the command structure didn't know was happening.
I worked with Deborah on The War Tapes and I know that her experience and integrity wouldn't let her try to make this something sneaky. She knows how to go through the system and make it work.
I can only think that Big Army saw something that they didn't like, and now their striking back at sombody who was only telling the truth.
I'm looking forward to hearing that SFC. Nunn has cleared his name, and I'm glad he's back home safe and sound.
As an antiwar protester and democrat, it was "Bad Voodoo"s War" that opened my heart to the soldiers serving in the middle east. I had always "supported" the troops, had a little yellow sticker on my bumper, but it was you, Toby Nunn, and your brethren, who made me truly care that each and every one of you came home safely. You personified bravery, intelligence, great leadership and extreme caring for your soldiers and it felt like you were in my home and a part of my family. If the Army does not clear your record and proudly bestow upon you the Most Honorable Discharge, I'll be mad as HELL.
Most unfortunate. Our Soldiers will loose a good and caring leader in you SFC Nunn if you get out. I think you did the Army and our fighting forces a favor by presenting a decent and realistic picture of what we ask of our military---and in your particular case, many times over---as I believe you said this is your 3rd tour in Iraq. All of the comments that I read from viewers were very supportive of you and our military. The Frontline piece helped people understand what is required of our troops and made viewers want to support our military more.
With only 1% of our populations serving in our military, the civilian population is often ignorant and untouced by the many sacrifices made by Soldiers and their families. Most only know about the military because they had an uncle who served in WWll or something. You put a voice and face to this war for many who otherwise just go about their business each day without a thought to the great things our Soldiers do day in and day out.
I am an Army wife of 25 years and thought the Frontline video that you supplied did the ARMY proud. Many question the mission---but definitely not our Soldiers.
Keep your head up. "You done good."
I am so in awe of the men and women serving in harm's way and in such deplorable conditions. Even if they don't agree with the war they are still serving their country honorably, as all good warriors have done throughout history, and as usual without the necessary equipment or backup.
It saddens me to see that once again the REMF's have poisened everything they touch, and that SFC Nunn is battling an extremely unjust war at home to preserve his good name. This is just so wrong as to be incomprehensible. Congress again is not taking proper care of our veterans and active duty personnel by funding the wars they start and taking of the wounded.
I purposely came on line just now to see if the Bad Voodoo platoon had made it home safely, because they have been in my mind and in my heart since my husband and I watched the Frontline documentary. The film was well done and honest to a fault, that is more than likely the reason Toby Nunn is in dire straights. While none of them made what could be considered inappropriate comments, the lack of support and equipment they were dealing with was glaringly obvious.
What these people have done in serving their country is to be lauded, not slapped around by cowards blades.
I appreciate your service, and am so glad you folks have made it home, seeing that special made it personal to me, and I wanted a good outcome badly.
Good luck to all of you, and thank you for the sacrifices you and your families have made for this country. It is people like you who have made this country great, and put to shame those ponderous oafs in the rear echelon.
I sit here and think of what to say, as I watched the Frontline videos so many things came to my head, things I would like to say personally to you and SPC Jason Shaw. I admire each and every soldier that has gone to war, my most respect to those who have given there lives for each and every one of us. and those who continue to do so. I am very dissapointed that you have been punished I don't believe it is fair, I don't see the wrong that has been done on the contrary I believe as well as you and every one who participated in this documentary should believe that it has actually helped the entire world understand the position and sacrifices that each soldier gives for it's Country, as well as sacrifices that you make in your own personal life. You have nothing to be ashmed of you are 1 BRAVE and ADMIRED soldier that has done a wonderful job for his Country. I'm finding it hard to write everything that is on my mind. My prayers go out to you and your familyas I am sure that this must be difficult on them as well, my most respect to your wife as she is by your side and also plays an important role in this by caring for your children. May God Bless you and I do wish the Army reconsiders there mistake and decision as I truly believe they are wrong, Never give up keep your head up high and be proud of yourself.
I am absolutely devastated to hear what has happened to SFC NUNN and SPC SHAW. I'm mad, mad as HELL.
I accidently came across the PBS website with this video one day while I was surfing the net for anything just anything that would give me some sort of connection to my son(ARMY NATIONAL GUARD,2years of service),I was going out of my mind with worry about him after his father and I had gotten "the call" that he had been injured while his convoy was out on mission. Thank God he is OK, just a few bumps, bruises and abrasions, but it was really this video and these guys blogs that gave me that comfort and the connection I was seeking. I can't stand to watch CNN,MSNBC NEWS, or even my local news channel because all they report is the negative side of our presence in Iraq. It was this video that gave me a glimps into everyday life of our military while there and calmed my fears, my worry, my pain of giving my only son to this mission.
SFC. NUNN and SPC. Shaw, I am proud of your work and I vow to work with anyone, absolutely anyone who wants to head up seeing that the bad marks for what you have done in innocence are removed and see to it that you complete your service with the HONORS that you so very deserve and have EARNED!
The ARMY NATIONAL GUARD have both of my children(a daughter also, with 3 years of service)I was proud to say my children are WARRIOR SOLDIERS with the GUARD, but after hearing about what they have done to you, I think I may think twice now before I brag.
ARMY GUARD,MOM.
Gotta love the Army. While the Army continues to stifle the creativity and innovation of its soldiers, our enemy continues to be rewarded for their own creativity and innovation (EFPs come to mind).
Matt Burden of Blackfive.net put it best: "I'd would follow SFC Nunn into hell with a gasoline can." Toby Nunn is the kind of soldier and leader that the Army is too lucky to have. This documentary has had and will continue to have an enormously positive impact on recruitment and retention in the military, and on the public's understanding and opinion of the Army and the war-- something that the Army can not seem to grasp. SFC Nunn's openness about his experiences, via the hard work and creativity of Deborah Scranton and her production company, is one of the few ways by which this war may be illuminated without the interference of the dimwitted juggernaut that is today's Army bureaucracy.
I've never met Toby in person, but from what I know of him I feel proud to be serving in the Army with soldiers like him.
What terrible news to hear of the cowardly actions toward SFC. Nunn and SPC. Shaw. Toby Nunn, you are an honorable leader who deserves the respect of every American. Your Frontline show was the most personal thing I have ever seen regarding the war.
I hope you bravely stand up to this shabby treatment and clear your name. Is there anywhere civilians can go to show our support for you? Do we have to stand for this disengenuous and appalling treatment of you and your men?
I hope at the end of this you do pursue journalism--as you already are a journalist. Write a book and publicize this outrageous outcome. There are many people who would help you. Whatever happens know you have support, your courageous efforts have not gone unrecognized, and that you are already a hero to many. Good luck.
Sgt. York is rolling in his grave... Too bad our "future-focused" military is so narrowly focused on the future, that they fail to focus on the basic military fact that Sargent's are the backbone of the military chain of command AND the best real-time opinion of current battlefield conditions short of full-area, 24/7 UAV/SAT monitors. But really, what place is personal honor, integrity, and reality befitting a Sargent in yet another one of our wars built on lies? Is this not expected? Bigger questions: Why is, "The Surge" turning this battlefield into Vietnam-era police missions with our soldiers and Marines as sitting ducks with their hands tied behind their backs? And why are they seemingly now the Viet Cong on bicycles getting bombed at will by the enemy while attempting to keep supply lines secure? I am truly beyond disgusted. My sympathies, Sgt. Nunn and the other crazy/brave warriors of Bad Voodoo. Now you have a war against two enemy fronts. Both enemies are using the same type of misguided, idealogical means of brainwashing their populations in an attempt to destroy each other. Whoever wins wipes out any non-believers and undesirables left on this space rock and sets up their ideal world order. Weird, huh? Yeah, we thought it was pretty wild too at first. Welcome to the real party, pal.... Know your enemies.
Thank you and your men for your service, and for giving all of us this rare insight into your lives. It seems like the only stories we civilians hear of any value come from the soldiers we know personally; to see some of these stories finally get told to a broader audience is wonderful. It is a disgrace to our military and our system of government that you are under attack for telling such simple truths. This administration and the high level leadership in the military doesn't need to worry about whether you guys are making them look bad, they'd doing a fine job of making themselves look bad with every action like this they take.
It is so frustrating to see our own government allowing politics and egos to overshadow their duty to uphold truth and honor. We expect the enemy to attack us, we don't expect to come under assault from the people we have chosen to serve us in leadership.
Please let us know if there's anything we can do for you to support your effort to get this decision reversed.
Sfc. Nunn,
It bothers me greatly to hear about your letter of reprimand. I personally enjoyed watching the videos and hearing your updates on the war. I feel that the people of the United States should be entitled to these videos so that we can have a better understanding and unbiased opinion of what is going on. The papers publish what they feel their readers will want. It is much better to hear the stories straight from the soldiers. I thank you and all of those who are serving for their time and commitment and I sincerely believe you deserve the honorary discharge you requested. God bless.
Sfc. Nunn, Spc. Shaw and the rest of Bad Voodoo have completed a great service for our country, the American military, and the people of Iraq. I just want all of the guys to know that we are all happy they are back home safe. The sacrifices (family, jobs, peace of mind, health, etc.) that these men make to fulfill their duties are not unappreciated. I wish all of the guys the best and hope that the military retracts the terrible blunder of punishment given for taping Bad Voodoo and keeping the American public informed.
Sfc. Nunn The United States Army works in strange ways, you have shown me why America is in Iraq and as a solider I am proud of your actions. May be someone in Command will wake up and do the right thing for you and Voodoo PLT. Bruce PTE. The Australian Army.
This doesn't surprise me one bit. It really upsets me that you have to go through this. This project was not a covert operation. Keep your head up and we'll be banging on their door to get this right for you.
Thanks for your service.
PS. It's a disgrace that they would investigate this great program that you participated in but they won't investigate the fraudulent war that you and all the men and women in uniform risk your lives for.
Sfc. Nunn, Spc. Shaw and the rest of Bad Voodoo did what they were ordered to do, too bad the brass at the top seem content to leave their heads buried in the sand. Remember, the brass work for the politicians, so make sure to express your anger over this to them.
SFC Nunn,
As a former Gulf War Medic, I salute you and your platoon for your courage both on the battlefield and in bringing the truth to the American people. Many veterans like myself always were unsupportve of the war, but supported our troops 110%, because we know that you fight for each other, not politics. You did a brave thing by showing us the truth and I hope the US Army shows their appreciation by allowing you the honorable discharge that you earned by putting your life and that of your soldiers at risk by just doing your job. Thank you to your platoon and all US Servicemembers who have gone in harms way to keep our way of life. We are proud of you!
Dear Frontline and the men of Bad Voodoo:
Instead of punishing Nunn and Shaw, the Army should be investigating why after 8.5 hours, KBR still had NOT arrived to pick up their disabled vehicle!
Show this video to every member of the House Armed Services Committee and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and then hope that our democracy, our model for the world, can correct this outrageous injustice!
This video is a refreshing real look at the conditions under which our brave soldiers strive to carry out their mission. I finished my "tour" in Iraq for the US Department of State last year, and I salute the contributions of Nunn, Shaw and the rest of Bad Voodoo.
America is truly a great and fortunate country because of you.
J. Palmer Roseli
Sfc. Nunn, Spc. Shaw and the rest of Bad Voodoo - thank you most sincerely for your efforts abroad that make this American way of life possible, a way of life that so many here unfortunately take for granted. And thank you also for sharing those experiences of yours with us here, something that is invaluable.
Sfc. Nunn and Spc. Shaw - I offer my support to you in whatever way possible in this trying time. I have faith, however, that the U.S. Army will realize that it has made a profound mistake that deserves righting, and will end its investigation, restoring all honors to any of the Voodoo men effected by this investigation. I am disgusted with the Army's actions in this respect, and I look forward to the removal of this blemish.
Thank you, again, so much for all of your efforts. They will never be forgotten.
I am in shock, how can this be? In 5 years of being a student of this war Bad Voodoo's documentary was one of the best educational tools to come out of Iraq. My God, I can't believe this. That filmed HELPED so many people and was so well done.
I am pissed the SFC Nunn and SPC Shaw are scapegoats. It is not acceptable and makes no sense. The film made people CARE. It made people THINK, it made people FEEL. The military should be PROUD of what these guys did. Everyone appreciated their willingness to share, be open, and bring the war home to us.
I am very sorry, there are not words to describe my anger.
SFC Nunn and SPC Shaw please know that you are loved and appreciated. Thank you.
I just finished watching Bad Voodoo Wars and thought afterwards how lucky the army was to have young dedicated young men who are willing to serve in God forsaken places like Iraq. And then i read how the army is trying to scapegoat the men. All I have to say is @!&*$% the Army and join the Marines they would be pleased to have a few good men like Sgt Nunn and his men.
First off, I would like to say thanks for everything you did, not once, twice, but for some of you guys, three or more times, and there is no other words that can describe you guys as Heroes. ...
I was recently over there, 2005-2007 and most of the places you guys went, I went. It brings a lot of memories and I'm glad that you guys went home with no fatalities. ...
I hope you get what you guys get what you deserve as HEROES and not a foot up the arse when you get out. God Bless and thank you for such bravery.
This is a great story, that left me wanting to learn more about these heros, and to have the peace of mind knowing that all are well, and home.
Now in this follow up I learned of the disgusting way Toby was treated. Excuse me have we gone from America the Beautiful to America the Pitifull?
I hope more people see this movie, and see the truth of a soldiers life in Iraq. Stories like these make it very easy to call BS when the politicians try to put their twist on their war will sitting comfortably on their butts in America.
Best of luck to you Toby, and THANK YOU for a job well done. May God Bless you.
I am mad about your disciplinary actions. You seem to have a strong character. I pray for you anyway, and am soo glad you and Shaw are home safe. It feels good to hope for the safety and well being of a stranger that is a good person.
I am so sorry that this is happening to both Sfc Nunn and Spc Shaw. It brought me back. I had forgotten being in the military is being in a communist faction where you have no rights (I'm a vet myself). I will continue to pray for them both and hope someone pulls their head out their blankety-blank and straightens this out properly.

As a proud American, it sickens me to see SFC Nunn and Spc.Shaw get in trouble for telling the truth. These men laid their lives on the line for America and all its freedoms but are not granted the ability to exercise theirs. Too bad the military heads dont look at the bad things that were apparent on the film and fix those things rather than ruin the careers of two good men. Or is that it, the bad things were shown so lets mess over the good men to deflect it off of those things. THANK YOU SFC NUNN AND SPC SHAW FOR TELLING THE TRUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOD BLESS YOU and GOOD LUCK.
I think that this is a great documentary about what it is really like right now overseas. I am looking forward to joining the Neb. Army National Guard and starting my first tour.
Sfc. Nunn,
I am glad to hear that you are home safe, but can't understand for the life of me why you would not get an Honorable Discharge. You have served your country with honor and deserve our thanks. I sincerely hope that things work out. Thanks for telling your story.

Everyone has been so eloquent in the comments I don't need to add more except to say I too admired Sfc Nunn and all the men I saw in the documentary and am outraged but unfortunately not surprised at the reprisals. I wish you courage and good fortune as you fight to clear your name for speaking the truth.

I urge everyone to write Senator Diane Feinstein and Senator Barbara Boxer of California on behalf of SFC Nunn and SPC Shaw.

It is hard to believe that no one in their chain of command was aware that the platoon was participating in this documentary. These men should not be punished for sharing their war experiences with the American public.
thank you for your service and your safe return.let everyone know who we need to contact about your story.your documentary was one of the best i have seen. good luck with your appeal.take care
I don't know what things people in the army command tell themselves to make it ok to hide the truth from the American poeople and to tarnish a record like yours for bringing the truth to light. They should be ashamed. IF they have any courage at all, they will read these comments and find their own sense of citizenship renewed. I doubt there is anything left of them but cowardice and deception.
Not so with the Bad Voodoo platoon. Thank God you are home and safe. Please, please, please--find your way to peace, prosperity, and health. Love already surrounds you. Enjoy your lives regardless of what you have experienced there. Feel free to do so. Life is a gift you shouldn't waste on guilt or fear. You did your duty and I for one am grateful. You have my support always--let me know what I can do to help. J from Alaska ps-Journalism would be proud to have any of you, but particularly you Sfc Nunn. Go for it!
I recently followed J Edmons' lead and wrote to Senators Feinstein and Boxer:
"Dear Senator:
I am from Columbus, OH and have absolutely nothing to gain by writing to you. However, I am writing to you all the same to bring to your attention the PBS FRONTLINE Documentary -- Bad Voodoo's War -- which originally aired on PBS in April, 2008.
Please go here for a more detailed description of the documentary, how it was produced, the California National Guard Platoon involved, and to actually watch the program: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/badvoodoo/
In addition, you may also want to visit the platoon leader's (Sfc. Toby Nunn) blog at: http://tobynunn.net/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&layout=blog&id=1&Itemid=54
All of these men recently returned to the states. However, two (2) of them, Sfc. Nunn and Spc. Jason Shaw have been hung out to dry by the Army. None of us who have taken the time to comment on both websites believe the accusations against these fine men or that they would participate in such a documentary WITHOUT the approval of their superiors. Whoever or however Bad Voodoo was given the green light for this project is now in denial (literally -- many of us believe -- lieing) and using Sfc. Nunn and Spc. Shaw as scapegoats.
This documentary and it's producer, Deborah Scranton, are above reproach and I believe this program brought many, many viewers out of the Bush/Cheney coma and to think outside the sandbox.
Please investigate the sequence of events and the ostracizing Sfc. Nunn and Spc. Shaw have had to endure."
Respectfully,

I urge you to do the same.

Thank you.
Greetings: You did a great job and I would like to write to the Commanding Officer in charge. I am a Military Journalist and a graduate of the Defense Information School. I served in Vietnam. So please give me a mailing address where I can send my letter to the CO and of course to the Judge Advocate. Thank you for your service and the great job of letting us know how you served.
SFC Nunn and SFC Shaw, Thank you for your dedication and willingness to share your story of the War in Iraq. My five classes of high school social studies students viewed "Bad Voodoo," and were outraged when I updated them on the treatment that you received from the Army. It is so sad to see honorable men treated so disrespectively by our government which is more concerned with image and ideological management. God Bless You
I have to say that I was more than impressed with this "Band of Brothers." These guys, all of them, show qualities that we hope all Americans would have, and we all hope to instill in our children. I have nothing but respect for these men (and women if any are in the unit) and just wish that I had a vocabulary extensive enough that I could make each of them feel the level of respect and appreciation I hold for them. It is also my hope that SFC Nunn is treated by the Army fairly. He deserves nothing negative in his service record. SFC Nunn certainly does not deserve anything that would discredit his distinguished and honorable service to our country. I was a Marine some years back, and I honor your service!
Well, I just watched this and I was on the edge of my seat. And I was a million miles away from the real scene. I don't know how people do this or go back again and again.
I see now you are in trouble with the govn't and really how could one be surprised? I have no doubt you did what you were supposed to, in the order in which it was supposed to be done for clearance/approval, but it clearly doesn't matter. What "really" matters is image. And the governments image has been tarnished. By their own doing; far more than anything this 1 hour program and comments could do. You and SFC Shaw are just more scape goats in a long line. And it is disgusting. Actually there are far more "appropriate" adjectives I could use, but you can use your imagination.
I am glad you are home safe and on the way to being sound. May God bless you and thank you for all that you have done.
SFC Nunn, I'm sorry that the Army is showing its true colors of an "Army of One" by bending you over and giving you the raw end. I am glad that you and all your men of Bad Vodoo made it back safely. I also was a National Guard member and was medically forced out as SSG in 2006. The Army released me with a 20% disablility and a severance package. The VA has me rated at 100% in just 2 years after my discharge. I hope that if you are forced out with only a General discharge that you have enough time to be able to retire and keep all your benefits. Even if you can't collect all of them until your 60 yrs old. Thank you for serving and showing a wonderful view of what todays american soldier and National Guardsman are required to go through when serving today. Bravo Zulu
I hope that someone comes to the defense of SFC Nunn and Spc Shaw. These men should be thanked for their service, instead of being threatened with punishment. They sacrifice greatly, so that the rest of us get to stay home. However, it doesn't surprise me what the Army is doing. My own brother(who just went back)was brought up on charges with three of his buddies, because they were going after people whom they knew were planting IED's. Luckily, their company commander stood up for them. Whoever, is above these brave men, should have the decency to argue on their behalf and have this non-sense thrown out of their records. We need more people like these soldiers, instead of the fools who created this mess. I am certain that the architecs of this war, do not have the courage to serve the way these guys do.
From a viewers point of view, I found the story compelling and emotionally moving. I do hope that the message presented enables all Americans to see through the eyes of a soldier. From a former NCO and Army Vet, my first thought was, "I hope SFC Nunn, got the Army approval to video his actions". And though I found the material presented in the video didn't violate any media productions rules, such as displaying death or show live forms of hostility. Not to say it was captured but through great editing violence was extremely limited in the public version. And though I'm not sore over the Army and how they treat their people, it pains me to see that they would attempt to apply such harsh of a punishment for a soldier to tell his story and express his feelings. But from the big Army perspective the US fighting man is the strongest man, and he bares no emotions. He just follow orders, but clearly that is an old interpretation of a soldier. The days of a soldier running through a hail of bullets with no vest, no cover and no ability to return fire is a thing of the past. SFC Nunn, keep your head up and don't give up the fight!
Former NCO Karim
This is one of the worst things I have ever herd of D.O.D. doing. I'll bet everything I own on the fact that the person who launched this "investigation" has not even fired a weapon since basic. This person just sits behind a desk and has never even been close to a forward area. Yet there vehicle is probley covered with stickers to make everyone think that there a big bad soldier. This is an outrage, how dare they do this to Sgt. Nunn or anyone else for that matter who has sacrificed so much. The D.O.D. has really crossed a line here.I dont see what was so unorthadox about the film,it just presented the facts. Civilians need to know stories like the story of Bad Vodoo and all others involved in this war.
Sincerly Patrick Knight
What is happening to Sfc Nunn and Spc Shaw is so much BS. This is a clear example of the American Military having their failures in this War being pushed back into their faces. The Military Brass shoud be viewing this video footage and kicking some A** to make sure that our fighting men are not the ones being Scr***d over by bad decesions. The Military is losing one hell of a soldier in Sfc Nunn and I hope that the he is successful in getting his record cleared. Hopefully there is someone out there with the right connections and clout to help them both. Thank you Sfc Nunn, Spc Shaw and the "Bad Vodoo" platoon for bringing us some of the Iraqi war realities
I am so sorry to hear of this, SFC Nunn and SPC Shaw...I have many comments that I am sure I ought to keep to myself so what I will say is this: your documentary was one of the best I have seen, it gave me insight that I did not have but that I did need - I hope the US Army, which both of my grandfathers, five of my uncles and my father served, will do the right thing by you guys. In any case, I am glad you all are back state-side and don't worry - there are plenty of jobs out there for guys as clever and experienced as you are!
Congrats to the soldiers who are out of the war. You are heroes.
To the soldiers being shunned by the military for participating in this great documentary, you are to be commended not condemned. The military and the government does not take care of its own. Shameful.
Best of luck to you all. Bless you.

According to the Center for Public Integrity, KBR received over $15,000,000,000 in contracts for work in Afghanistan and Iraq during 2004 - 2006. According to Bob Murphey (http://www.strike-the-root.com/3/murphy/murphy6.html), in an article in Slate, Daniel Drezner states that KBR gave over $2.3 million in campaign contributions to the Bush campaign. SFC Nunn and the brave men of Bad Voodoo Platoon gave their very being to a mission and were stranded by KBR. SFC Nunn publicly documented KBR's screwup. Could there be a connection between Nunn's documentation of KBR's screwup and the Army's investigation of him?
Glad you're back, gentlemen. Welcome home. Hope you don't have to go again.
Hello all, As Toby's webmaster for his blog and his friend, I can say that Toby is doing great! He's in his new home with his family. As I understand it, Jason Shaw is good to go as well. Please have a visit to Toby's site. New stuff posted on a regular basis. Thanks to everyone who supported him and continues to support him and Bad VooDoo!

Just finished watching the video and was shocked to find that SFC Nunn was repremanded for his participation. As a former EOD tech., I'm familiar with the dangers of IEDs and the hazards they provide to the safety of our troops.
This documentary was an honest portrayal that war knows no clock or timetable and it made no judgements about US policy regarding the current war. Bad Voodoo should be commended for their honesty in illustrating life in a combat zone and for making the military lifestyle more understandable for their families and other civilians here at home.
You may be "An Army of One," but those who have been there before you send our support and gratitude.
Sgt. Nunn,
I know that earlier in the show that God has been metioned in such a way that the trust by SPC Shaw has deminished. I hope that there is a way that he can regain back the faith that has eroded. All of us are creatures of the Lord and his plans are not our plan.
The religious root of the fertile crecent has evolved from one single God, the God of Abraham. The root of the problem is the radical belief of some Muslims that goes all the back in time. It is all about "greed".
The sign of times is upon us and all manifestations are coming to bare.
The truth will always come out and nobody in our history has been able to hide anything.
You and your troop are men of courage that can equal 300 men in Thermopylae againts all odds.
I'm serving in Europe and I wish I have been there because what you and your men have accomplished is something that the Son of a Bush should look at with his concience and not with his oil rich friends. Chaney, Rumsfeld and him went to all extent to lie, cheat and distort information and now how he is claiming executive priviledge.
Voodoo I salute you...
I pray for your cause with all my heart.
I will get in contact with Boxer and Feinstein.
Hang in there and God is always there just waiting...
Bro. Mel
Toby, you and Jason Shaw and all of your friends are heroes...I prayed for y'all as I watched the show, especially for Jason since he seemed to be struggling spiritually...Jason is a good man and I hope he knows how much Jesus cares for us...Jason is a hero and I am praying for him today as I write this blog...thanks for serving our Country and God bless the USA!
Your friend, Joel (Former Marine)
Hearing that Sgt. Nunn was reprimanded made me angry. Your leadership is, regrettably, f***ing stupid. I understand that your appeals were successful. Congratulations.
When truth is the enemy what the hell are you guys fighting for?
Keep safe (there could be another deployment, ya never know).

Wow! What a heck of a series about the war to stumble across then come to find out couple of you are in trouble for taking part in this documentary. I absolutely admire how Sgt. Nunn conducts himself and find it abosolutely ridiculous a man of his character and history of serving our country has gotten mixed up with political bull puckey where his career could be over.
I sure hope it all works out for all of you and you have our deepest appreciation for what all of you have given up for this country. Your a good man Sgt. Nunn and deep down I think you know that through thick and thin. Your family is number one and if there is nothing that can be done for your career with the Army then their loss once again of a great soldier. You will succeed doing something else and excel just as you have with the military. Don't give up to easily though as they owe you in my book. =)
Should have gotten permission first. Some of the footage, such as battle damage, can be used by the enemy. The video was an intel goldmine for the bad guys. Thats why the CoC must review it and approve it prior to release to the media.
PS its never a good idea to criticize the chain of command in front of millions of viewers.

I can not believe the Army that these fine soldiers serve (and that I served) has and is doing this to these fine men. They (the Army) should be ashamed of themselves. How is the average American to have any idea what our soldiers go through? To SFC Nunn and SPC Shaw, you are what this country needs, you are the real deal and should not be treated the way you are. GOD BLESS you and all the other soldiers that are just doing there jobs.

Welcome home Bad VooDoo! Thanks for the look at what convoy security is all about. My son was a convoy security gunner in Iraq with the Red Arrow Div. Your film has helped me better understand and appreciate all he went through. Too bad the ARMY brass can't see the good this film portrays.
