Amber Arseneau — La Serna High School, Los Angeles, CA
“I love Art:21! I teach photography and have found your art series a saving grace to cover the wide gamut of contemporary artists that are making art right now. When I was in art school I was learning about all sorts of contemporary artists, but now since I am no longer in the art community, I do not know about a lot of the art that is being made. Your series informs, inspires, and rejuvenates me, which in turn I give back to the students. My students really connect with your videos, unlike a lot of the typical dry art videos. Art is fun, so it should follow that the videos about art should be fun too. Thanks a lot!”

Chris Johnston — Scotland
“Your site is an excellent resource for this art and design educator with some responsibility for devising and issuing materials for distribution within a rural state education administration in SW Scotland. So, Thank you! Your aim of making art personally relevant, engaging, and accessible to the majority who are outside the main cultural catchment areas is particularly important if individual expression and creativity.”

Nashana Reding-Tuomi — St. Cloud, Minnesota
“As an art student I find the Art:21 series inspiring and full of fantastic information and resources for artists. My professors love to show the artists from your series in class and express the importance of having a vision and loving art. The Art:21 series has had a major impact on my art life in school and beyond and I hope PBS continues it for years to come. It gives studying students and new artists incentive to produce quality work and express their opinions in a very free way. I sincerely appreciate this fantastic seris and look forward to each and every episode! Keep up the great work!”

Dawn Martin — Art at Sage, Foxboro, MA
“I just wanted you to know that I have found use of the Art 21 tapes invaluable in my classroom. I am able to use segments to illustrate all kinds of ideas as they arise in discussion or during work in progress. It is great for students (I teach academically gifted Middle School students in an independent school) to see artists engaged in the artmaking and reflection process. The segments are edited beautifully to give visual and intellectual material that is accessible. It can be hard work to stretch students' definition of art, when their home culture tends toward the conservative. School budgets and timeframes offer limited opportunities to engage the art live, although we do go specifically to art exhibitions a couple time per year. This contemporary work so clearly shown is the next best thing. I'm really looking forward to the next season.”

Mary Trainor — New York, NY
“hey! as a practicing artist and high school art teacher in a public school, i think art:21 is an awesome resource for artists, teachers and students. thank you again for working so hard to create such an informative, inspiring and useful tool!!”

Melissa Conrad — James Ford Rhodes High School, Cleveland, OH
“Greetings From Cleveland! I bought the art 21 series for myself and [my] classroom last year and use it faithfully to support my lessons. I love showing my multicultural students these contemporary artists to familiarize them with what is current and modern! They seem to enjoy it—even the artists they don’t quite understand! Thanks for the great website and teaching materials. You really help me be a better teacher!”

Jerry Polley — 6th Grade Teacher, Sunnyslope Elementary, Orchard, WA
“As a public school teacher, I am grateful to PBS and the Art 21 creators and sponsors. Without your help, my students would be experiencing art as dead history. Art 21, on the other hands, is a laser lens, reflecting ourselves and our elegantly flawed present. Our best and brightest kids will use this lens as a springboard to view the future with new eyes. Thanks for sharing.”

Deborah Klose —Elkins Park, PA
“Kudos Art 21! I was introduced to the Art 21 series at the Teacher’s Institute in Contemporary Art (TICA) at The School of the Art Institute in Chicago last summer. Until now the most contemporary artists which I introduced to my students were those of the early modern era. Since I got the DVD set I have watched it several times and can’t get enough of the truly contemporary art and their makers. I feel that I have been reborn as an artist and educator and plan to use this series extensively throughout the school year. The Art 21 series and website have the most thorough and hands on information available in contemporary art for educators today.”

Erin McNally — Clarkstown High School North, New City, NY
“I am really impressed by the lesson plans provided. It is difficult to find sophisticated lessons that deal with contemporary art.”

Todd Bartel — The Cambridge School of Weston, Weston, MA
“Art21 is profound television… Programs such as Art:21 are so well distilled, that the larger subjects are readily accessible. This is perfect for pedagogy. It is the larger subject that allows us, any of us, to plug ourselves into it and find personal meaning; the series activates that power in its viewers.”

Kathleen Pierie — Country Day School, C’std, St. Croix
“Thank you. I cannot tell you how valuable your series has been in helping my students understand the contemporary forms of art “out there”…we’re quite isolated here!”

Molly Jo Noland - Cheboygan, Michigan

“I have been teaching in rural northern Michigan for 20 years. I have felt
so isolated as an artist and educator. The Art:21 series was such a breathe
of fresh air. And today I just discovered your awesome web site. Yea!
I also serve on our local Arts Council and last winter we used the Art:21
information in a free community series that stimulated great discussions
about what is and is not art. Many people in attendance widened their
boundaries about art and asked that the series continue for the following
winter. So we are planning to use the new information (I have already
ordered) and are looking forward to more lively discussions this winter.
And of course I am using all of this in my curriculum at school. Thank you
so much for feeding our artistic souls here in Cheboygan.”

Paul Perry - Miami Art Museum, Miami, FL

“The museum where I work has a contemporary focus, so your Art:21 series is of particular interest to our education staff. Several of the artists featured in your videos have been exhibited here including Richard Serra, Ann Hamilton, and Pepon-Osorio. Your segments are extremely well thought out and engaging--particularly "Identity". So much of post-modern conceptualism by artists working now share an affinity to this timeless concept--made all the more significant in our muti and transcultural society. Your segments can be truly beneficial in the classroom where emphasis on "issues-based learning" is so important. We will be having a major exhibition next year on the artist Shirin Neshat, and your series will definately be used to develop cross curricular teacher packets for our teacher professional development workshop.”

Julie Sawyer - S. Deerfield, MA
“Last year I used the Ar:t21 video and pieces of the Identity and Place curriculum with my "special topics" students -- these students are my advanced art students, generally seniors, who plan to study art at the college level. I really appreciate the quality of your products and the intellectual challenge they bring to my students.”

Jann Jeffrey - Nacogdoches, TX

“I JUST! received a mailer today and am so sorry I didn't know about season one. I can't wait to order everything. I am the only art teacher in Corrigan, TX (town of 1700--I live 55 miles away)and often I feel ALONE in my efforts. You can't imagine how welcome this whole effort is to me.

Amanda Linn - Little Rock, Arkansas

“Because of the first Art:21 series, I have been inspired to create my own teaching materials about contemporary art. The way that the series is presented using themes was a perfect fit for my curriculum. Your use of themes also demonstrated to my students that it was not just their insane art teacher pushing them to develop themes in their own work. I have used the first Art:21 series with my Advanced Art classes and my Multi Media class. I am excited that there will be a second installment.”
