Rural
Show Intro
Marie Antoinette embraced “the natural life” at Petit Trianon, which is reflected by her almost costume-like attire. While at her favorite retreat, the queen and her companions often dressed in “rural” clothing, such as this outdoor-friendly dress, sensible jacket, and sun-blocking straw hat.

At times, Marie Antoinette and her friends would dress as shepherdesses, and play at milking the cows and tending other docile animals.

Her flowing, unfettered hair also exemplify this trend, and certainly freed her from elaborate styling rituals.
