Political Checklist: Dispatch from Ohio

By: Christina Bellantoni

In this week's Political Checklist, I chatted with senior correspondents Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff about the Buckeye State -- the battleground that just won't quit.

That's one reason presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney took his bus tour through the state over the weekend. After following Romney around on the ground in Ohio, Gwen noticed that many Republicans she spoke with might be voting for him, but just aren't that excited about him as a candidate.

We also talked about President Obama's decision to limit deportations, a move that will prevent nearly 1 million undocumented young people from leaving the country. Romney has been placed in a bind as reporters press him on whether he would overturn the decision, and all of that serves as fodder while the candidates woo Hispanic voters.

Judy noted that anything the White House does in an election year, especially less than five months out from The Big Day, should usually be viewed through a political lens.

Make sure to tune in to the NewsHour Monday for Gwen's report from Ohio.

Cassie M. Chew shot and edited this video and Meena Ganesan and Jeff Rathner assisted with production.
