Video reportedly shows girls abducted by Boko Haram
The AFP obtained a video on Monday reportedly showing the Nigerian girls being held by Boko Haram. In the video, Abubakar Shekau, the leader of Boko Haram demands the release of imprisoned Islamic militants in exchange for the release of the girls. In the video a large group of girls is shown praying while wearing full veils. The girls in the video have not yet been identified or confirmed to be those kidnapped.
The New York Times’ Adam Nossiter reports from ruins of the raided school in Chibok, Nigeria, where the students’ parents gathered on Sunday to speak with a local official. The families are unhappy with their government’s slow response to the kidnapping, overall unaware of the international outcry over the attack, and despondent over their missing children.
On Friday, Jeffrey Brown explored the international social media campaign centered on the efforts to return the abducted girls.
