Dalton Trumbo’s HUAC Testimony

This archival footage, captured on October 28, 1947, shows writer Dalton Trumbo providing his testimony in front of the U.S. government’s notorious House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), an investigative committee of the House of Representatives with strong and widely known anti-Communist and anti-Leftist stances. The Committee asks Trumbo if he is in any way affiliated with the Communist Party and Trumbo defiantly refuses to address their concern.

The writer’s fellow Hollywood elite, including actors Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, can be seen craning their necks in full attention at the hearing, while members of the press type away at their table.
