"I preached a sermon from the Riverside Church asking, exhorting, calling for Christians to repent of their Christian imperialism that belief that Jesus Christ is the only way. That is so far from my theology. I have always believed that there are many ways to have a relationship with God and to be in just relationships with one another."

Rev. Braxton, in his desire to be inter-faith has rejected the teaching of Jesus and His Church. John 14:6 I am the Way the Truth, and the The Life, no one comes to the Father but by me.

Where the Gospel is preached God gathers His people, the largest Protestant church in Manhattan is now Redeemer Presbyterian Church, just 20 years old. Where the Gospel is not preached the church loses its reason to exist and dwindles away.

Sometimes we are called for a brief time and then our mission is complete. The purpose for which we have been called has met. Not as we expected, but as God planned. These defining moments shape and influence us as we move forward, even through the pain and joy of the journey.

I read with keen interest Rev.Dr.Braxton's interview and make the point that there is generally the "power"sharing conflicts within even established Baptist churches.
Dr.Braxton has rightly taken the full responsibility for either his lack of traditional communication skills in such a situation or indeed his too great an expectation that all in the congregation should have been reached within two months.
Sometimes,"Revelations" of a particular theological doctrine is not received by those it is intended for until days, weeks, months even years later.
For what it is worth to those who would listen with an open mind;Jesus in answer to one of his Disciples (Thomas),when Thomas was in doubt as to the right way, told him: "I am the way,the truth, and the life:no man cometh unto the Father, but by me".(St.John 14:6).
I dont think it is a stretch of the immagination to believe that all properly trained Theologians should recognise that Jesus' teachings are as all encompassing and inclusive as it could be.
All who are still labouring as it were, are PERSONALLY invited by Jesus Himself through his personal invitation:"Come unto me,all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."(St.Matthew 11:28).
Dr.Braxton is encouraged to keep the faith and make sure learn those lessons and pray for insight and wisdom so that he would receive the "Revelations" that are for him in this particular exercise and future ones.

This is a very comprehensive interview and clearly delineates the difficulties that often arise in an organization when there is a misunderstanding of definitins of terms, roles, positions and duties. Rev. Dr. Braxton recognized this, perhaps too late, to achieve the Church's mission. My wish is for him and his family to continue to follow God's way, to have the courage to avoid compromise and to recognize the difference between right and wrong. Wherever they find themselves, I hope the community will recognize how blessed they are to have him and his family in their midst. May God continue to pour His blessings on him and his family. .
