AP Fact Check: Trump and Democrats mangle science

Science took a beating in the political arena this past week as President Donald Trump sowed confusion about Hurricane Dorian's path and Democratic presidential candidates rang false alarms about the air we breathe.

Trump, speaking to reporters at the White House, decreed it an "illegal investigation" conducted by "dirty cops." The president did not name them but has previously blamed Justice Department officials and former FBI Director James Comey.

President Donald Trump on Monday denied he worked for Russia, a direct response to a weekend report from The New York Times that FBI investigators had opened a probe into whether the president had acted on behalf of the country.
