Timeline

Birthday parties can be a lot of fun (and a lot of work!) To help you be present for the presents and enjoy the moment with your child, we've put together a comprehensive start to finish party plan for your book birthday party.

After you send out your fun party invitations 2 to 4 weeks ahead, it's time to start planning.

Shop for, print, and prepare any non-perishable items at least a week in advance. Make it a group effort by encouraging your child to help with the decorations if the party isn't a surprise.

If your party will be held outside, you will likely not be able to decorate much in advance, so schedule some time the morning of the party to hang decorations and put the final touches on your backyard.

The cake can be decorated a couple of days ahead, and the day before the party is the perfect time to bake the cookies. Set out the party food and style the desserts table just before the guests are due to arrive.

With all of the preparation set, you are ready to start the party. We suggest the following order of activities to help the day go smoothly. Let's party!

  1. Welcome guests with a fun art craft
    25-30 minutes minutes

Have the kids gather around a table to decorate their library signs while you wait for the rest of the guests to arrive.

  2. Create your own bookworm!
    25-30 minutes minutes

Help your little party guests create their very own bookworm buddy that they can take home with them.

  3. Time for cake and yummy treats

Bring out the cake and sing to the birthday child! This is a good time to eat those tasty sandwiches.

  4. Take a group picture

Make sure to capture the moment after the kids taste the treats in front of the homemade bookshelf backdrop.

  5. Create your own bookworm bookmark

Start winding down the party with one last craft! This is a quick activity that can be completed as parents begin picking up their children.

  6. Hand out party favors and say goodbye

Hand out these edible bookworms to your party guests to enjoy on their way out!
