Creature Power Generator Game

The Kratt Brothers observe how certain features help animals overcome challenges, solve problems and survive in the wild. In this dice game, you and your child will be assigned random creature powers and an action that you may do often in your daily routine. Decide how the creature powers may help you do the task differently. Then, explore further by challenging your child to think about how they might use creature powers to succeed at other daily tasks and overcome new challenges.

Help your child fill in the blank boxes on both cubes. On the Creature Power cube, add an animal that has a creature power that’s different from the others. For example, you may choose to add the basilisk lizard — its creature power allows it to run on water! Or your child might decide to include the chameleon — its creature power allows it to blend into its environment. Check out the Creaturepedia to learn more about creature powers. On the Creature Action cube, write down something that you and your child often do together. For example, you can write “eat breakfast” or “get dressed” or “brush teeth.”

Next, help your child carefully cut out the cubes.

Assemble the Creature Power Generator cubes by folding along the lines and taping the cubes closed.

Now it’s time to play the game! Take turns with your child rolling the cubes. Roll one cube to find out which creature power to use and roll the other cube to find out what activity you should do.

Once your child has a creature power and a creature action, help them think about how the animal’s creature power can help them do the action in a new or different way than usual. Then pretend to perform the action with the creature power. Encourage your child to use their imagination and consider the animal’s features when doing the action. Continue taking turns or have the whole family join in the fun! After the game is over, ask your child to think about which action was the most fun. How might they do something differently the next time you play?
