Make Your Own Sustainable Buzz Stuffie

Aug 18, 202230 min activity
Completed Buzz stuffie.

Re-use fabric at home to save energy! You can turn old fabric scraps and an old glove into a stuffie that looks just like Buzz with the help of some geometric shapes.

Materials

Directions

1

Flip the thumb of your glove inside out and tuck it inside the glove.

2

Fill the glove with stuffing, scraps of fabric, or paper.

3

Take the wrist opening of the glove and divide it into two “ponytails.” Close them up with rubber bands.

4

Cut out the geometric shapes below from your old fabric, felt, or construction paper:

  • 1 big black rectangle

  • 2 bigger yellow ovals

  • 2 smaller white ovals

  • 1 long red oval

  • 2 small white triangles

5

Holding the glove so that the fingers hang down (as Buzz’s arms and legs), glue the black rectangle horizontally in the upper center of the glove.

6

Glue the red oval horizontally below the black rectangle.

7

Glue the two yellow ovals next to each other on top of the rectangle. Glue the two white ovals on top of the yellow ones. Draw two black dots on the white ovals.

8

Glue the two white triangles on top of the long red oval on both sides. Draw a black line across the red oval between the two triangles. Your Buzz stuffie is finished!

Sensory-Friendly Adaptation

Pre-cut the felt shapes for children with fine motor skill challenges. Make sure to choose a glove texture that is pleasing to your child. If rubber bands are unpleasant texturally to your child, you may use small ponytail holders. Adding dry beans or rice to the stuffie will add weight that some children with sensory processing differences might find pleasurable.

You can make your own stuffie design too. Use other old pieces of clothing like socks or t-shirts and see what characters you can make!
