“Mom, are we there yet?” my preschooler asks just ten minutes into a five-hour drive to see her grandparents. Like me, she’s always up for an adventure. But long hours on the road are challenging for a wiggly child.

Whether on a family road trip, boarding a plane together, or simply heading to the park, time on the go is probably part of your summer plans. Little bodies and minds can often use extra support while traveling.

PBS KIDS is one of my family’s favorite resources when we’re on the road with our young child. The Daniel Tiger road trip games and episodes make our travel time with a preschooler more successful and enjoyable for everyone. The show is packed with strategies, skills, and giggles for toddlers and preschoolers. We even use Daniel's potty before we leave because, as Daniel says, “There’s no potty on Trolley!” And when boredom strikes, we have a stash of Daniel Tiger road trip games for kids ready to go.

Daniel Tiger can make traveling easier and keep your child's learning on track. Download the PBS KIDS Video App to your tablet or phone to access your favorite Daniel Tiger episodes. The PBS KIDS Games App is a treasure trove of road trip games for preschoolers, all designed to be fun and educational.

No Wi-Fi on the road? No problem! Download episodes and games to your devices before you leave. They’ll be there when you’re ready for them.

We’ve chosen the best Daniel Tiger episodes and games that are perfect to take on the go for your next road trip with kids! These travel games for kids have been a game-changer for us, and I think they’ll make your road trip more enjoyable, too!

Games

Nature Walk. Spending long hours on the road? Your preschooler will enjoy taking a nature walk with Daniel Tiger and his family with this fun travel game for kids. Consider planning a nature scavenger hunt before you leave home. Then, take your own nature walk to reconnect when you stop for a rest or arrive at your destination.

Make Believe. This road trip game for preschoolers offers imaginative play and many choices, making it a great travel game for kids who feel stuck in a car. When you get to where you’re going, they’ll have plenty of ideas for creative play.

Drive Trolley. Your toddler or preschooler will love to be in charge of “driving” the trolley in the backseat. When you stop, ask where they went and who they picked up along the way! Print some Trolley coloring pages for more entertainment when it’s time to turn off the screen.

My Bedtime. After a day of travel or new activities, your child can prepare for bedtime with Daniel Tiger. In this road trip game, kids learn the bedtime routines of Daniel and his neighborhood friends. The game may be extra helpful if you’re in a new place, and bedtime will look different. You can also prepare by creating a bedtime routine book to take on the go. Let your child flip through it while you’re traveling.

Episodes

Fruit Picking Day/Daniel is Big Enough to Help Dad. Planning for a trip can be a lot of work — why not ask your child for their help? In this episode, Daniel Tiger and Prince Wednesday learn that no one is too small to make an impact and “everyone is big enough to do something.” Show your child how they can assist with smaller tasks, and give them an opportunity to take on tasks they can handle on their own. Watch this episode to encourage your child to think of other ways they can be a helper wherever you go!

Safety Patrol/Safety at the Beach. Prince Tuesday teaches Daniel and his friends all about traffic signs and following rules to “stop, listen, and stay safe” as they walk through the Neighborhood. They also learn how to stay safe at the beach, so this is a great episode to watch if you are planning to spend time near the water. When you’re out and about, remind your child to notice what’s around them and to be cautious while crossing the street. This episode encourages kids to stick by their grown-ups and pay attention to their surroundings no matter where they are, especially when navigating an unfamiliar environment.

Daniel and Margaret Visit the Farm/Fireflies and Fireworks. Do new experiences make your child feel nervous? In this episode, Daniel feels nervous when he visits a new place. Dad Tiger helps him face his fear by holding his hand. Showing your child that you are by their side through a new experience can be comforting to them. Build your child’s confidence by trying new things together.

Daniel Visits a New Neighborhood. This movie is great for a long road trip with kids. Tag along with Daniel and Mom Tiger as they visit friends who live far away. The story will help prepare kids to spend time in a new place. You and your child can practice the same skills as Daniel, like social skills for public spaces and managing disappointment. You can also talk about ways to connect and play with new friends, just like Daniel learns to do. After your trip, plan some ways to stay connected with family and new friends.

Tiger Family Trip Movie. When the Tiger Family embarks on a road trip to Grandpere’s house, Daniel doesn’t know what to expect. He soon discovers all the exciting things to do and see along the way, including a dinosaur playground and a butterfly garden. What will you do and see together? Download this episode to give your child ideas for ways to pass the time and encourage patience by playing games, like Daniel does with his sister Margaret Tiger.
