Learn more about the wide variety of ideas for implementing portable benefits from the Aspen Institute.  Benefits that have traditionally been tied to a job, like health insurance or retirement accounts, could instead be tied to the worker themselves, following them from job to job. This would help more workers retain important coverage from gig to gig or in the event of losing a job.

The AARP and American Association of Community Colleges have collaborated to provide special coaching and services to Americans over 50 looking for a job or reskilling opportunities.

One Million Degrees 

While community colleges are an essential bridge for low-income or non-traditional students to higher education and better jobs, too many students are unable to finish their degree programs due to barriers including finances, family obligations, and systemic racism. The University of Chicago conducted a study of the city’s One Million Degrees program, which supports students with comprehensive wraparound services like scholarships, coaching, and skill-building workshops, and found a 47% increase in persistence through the full degree program.
