When Hamid attempted to return to Lodi in the summer of 2005, his name appeared on the federal no-fly list, and his flight was diverted to Tokyo, where he was questioned by the FBI. Ultimately, he was allowed to reenter the United States, a decision U.S. Attorney McGregor Scott calls "a mistake." But former FBI agent James Wedick believes their decision indicated that law enforcement did not think he was a threat.
