Another of the prosecution's key pieces of evidence was a ta'wiz, or supplication, a single Arabic sentence written on a scrap of paper and found in Hamid's wallet when he was arrested. A quote from the hadith, the collection of words and actions of the Prophet Mohammed, it translates roughly: "Lord, let us be at their throats, and we ask you to give us refuge from their evil."
