On April 25, 2006, after 9 days' deliberation, Hamid Hayat was convicted of "providing material support" to terrorists. He faces up to 39 years in prison, pending appeal. His father Umer's case ended in a hung jury and mistrial; to avoid a retrial, he pled guilty to a customs violation for transporting $27,000 to Pakistan.
