The country’s largest organization for the protection of animals, with instructions for building a doghouse, articles on dog behavior and body language, and links to other Web sites.

Breed Rescue Organizations
A compilation of organizations that rescue dogs and other animals, listed by breed. Also contains a link to a page of shelters, listed by state.

Non-profit national Web site featuring photos of homeless dogs. A good resource for finding or saving a dog.

American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
All about adopting a dog. Also includes information on dog health care, behavior, and training.

Canine Companions for Independence
A nonprofit organization that trains dogs for people with disabilities, as well as for pet therapy.

The American Kennel Club
Information on dog breeds, responsible ownership, and dog shows; electronic brochures on dog safety, feeding, and local Kennel Clubs around the country.
