Churchill’s mother, Jennie Jerome, was the daughter of a wealthy New York financier and socialite, Leonard Jerome. This maternal link would be the first of many important connections that Churchill would develop with America during his life. While on a lecture tour in 1931, Churchill was hit by car as he crossed the street in New York. His injuries were severe, but with typical spirit, he completed many of his remaining speaking engagements. |
