Throughout many periods of American history, Jewish immigrants brought skills that were in sync with America's economic needs. Merchants and artisans filled an important niche during colonial times; peddler's who traveled the countryside, arrived in America during the years of geographic expansion in the mid-19th century; and garment workers arrived in the late 19th century during the industrial expansion.
