If not for this fact, when Leo Castelli visited Rauschenberg's studio, in which they lived and worked together, he would not have seen John's work, and thus launched Johns on his path to recognition. This might be considered a controversial part of his story, but it is a pivotal one as well. It has been said that Rauschenberg's early masterpiece "Bed" was created as an act of love for Johns, and it comprised of the bed they slept in together for many years.
