I've seen many concerts over the years, from pop and rock to jazz and classical. Truly, among the highlights was watching Bernstein conduct the Chicago Symphony. The slightest gesture from him evoked the appropriate response from the orchestra. During the second curtain call, the concertmaster refused to stand when requested (and thus the entire orchestra), for he felt the maestro should take a bow - alone. It was a great moment I'll never forget.

I am a music teacher and was, at one time, an aspiring conductor. Leonard Bernstein had been my inspiration since I was a child (I also grew up on his Young People's Concerts). He served as a role model for me in both fields, since he was both a great conductor and a great teacher as well.

I remember watching Bernstein's young people's concerts on public TV 40+ years ago as a child. I loved watching him conduct and the music he selected. Most of all, I remember his love of music and of sharing it with audiences of every age. He was truly a genius and a passionate man.
