I stand for Love, Peace, and Equal Rights for all. My husband and I opened Ben's Chili Bowl in 1958, and we have become known as the gathering place in DC for people from all walks of life. I've had the privilege of sitting with Dr. King many times at the Bowl as he discussed his "I Have a Dream" speech and future plans. Over 50 years later, I welcomed President Obama, promoting his book "A Promise Land" at the Bowl. I never imagined living to see this day, and I know Dr. King would be so proud! I've welcomed and served countless guests who came to Ben's to enjoy a freshly cooked meal while discussing and planning actions on how to make the world a better place. It's very common to walk into Ben's and see conversations at our counter between politicians, celebrities, and our regular local guests.
