I was raised to believe that sacrifice and hard work are part of what defines our character. My father encouraged me to always have faith in myself, speak truth, and do what’s right. My mother taught me the importance of staying true to my identity and developing a strong work ethic. As a visible Muslim woman, I’ve learned that other people’s perspectives don’t have to reflect our reality. When we set a goal and focus on achieving it despite the distractions, we’ve already accomplished the hardest part. My life’s passion is to advocate for justice and equity for marginalized communities, and help empower young people to become our leaders for tomorrow. Despite the enormous challenges and crises they are inheriting, the next generation’s resilience and fortitude inspire me to have faith for a brighter future.
