The tradition I carry on is making dumplings during Chinese New Year. Every region of the world has food that has come to characterize its culture. In China during the Lunar New Year, it's been dumplings. Growing up, while we've certainly had our fair share of dumplings, I never realized the significance until I went back to China for New Years and witnessed it at scale. There were dumplings everywhere. Every store, every household we visited, were all making dumplings or had the raw materials to do so. It gave framing and perspective that despite my parents immigrating over to the United States, they still carry on the traditions they had while growing up. While we make dumplings at home, I think about the millions of people who are overseas doing the same during this time of year.
