The tradition I carry on is story telling. My mother interviewed elderly individuals for the county historical society, to capture their family's role in local lore. Interviewees were invited to our dining room table where my mother was ready with a massive tape recorder and a notebook. Sometimes county road maps were also spread out to assist in pinpointing where folks lived, worked and farmed. I loved to eavesdrop from the kitchen or living room. My Mom was very good at pulling folks in with good humor and a deep curiosity. They quickly were at ease and eager to share the details. I learned a lot about interviewing from those history sessions long ago.
