I took a risk when I resigned from my job to became an unpaid organizer with Sunrise Movement Dallas. You see, when I had to wait to drink water on hot summer days in India as a child, I learned that environmental issues affect our every day lives. Today, the greatest environmental challenge we face is climate change. We see it in the fires in Australia and California. One of my friends from Houston saw her home flood for three years in a row. In Dallas, storms uprooted our community twice in 2019. What we experience as extreme weather today, we will experience as food and water shortages tomorrow. This is already happening around the world. Amidst the impending doom, I am hopeful because of the spirit and energy of young people who are calling on their politicians to take bold action.
