The tradition I carry on is making gingerbread cookies into Christmas Ornaments. My parents' first Christmas together they were desperately poor. They scraped up a tree and a string of lights. All of their other decorations could be bought with food stamps. They made garlands of popcorn and cranberries and my mom turned gingerbread cookies into ornaments. 40+ years later I make them using the same stencils she carefully traced on paperboard and the designs she drew for each.
