U.S. service members perform ‘Ocho Kandelikas’ for Hanukkah

  Now a "NewsHour" tradition.

  Each year, we ask the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service at the Pentagon to produce holiday songs with service members singing.

  On the second night of Hanukkah, we present "Ocho Kandelikas" by the composer and singer Flory Jagoda. It originally was written in Ladino, which is Judeo-Spanish.

  (Music)

  That is my new favorite Hanukkah song.

  (Ocho Kandelikas is a traditional Sephardi tune that was updated by singer and musician Flory Jagoda in Ladino, which is Judaeo-Spanish. A translation of the song into English can be found at the Milken Archive.)
